The New York Jets Sign Michael Vick

The Jets pick up Michael Vick to only released Sanchez Friday afternoon, four days before a $2 million roster bonus would come due for the former first-round pick quarterback. Sanchez will count as $4.8 million in dead money toward the Jets’ salary cap this season, but the team will save more than $8 million in salary.

“I’d like to thank Mark for everything he’s done for this team and me personally,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said in a statement released by the team. “We were rookies together and had some early success, becoming the first rookie head coach and quarterback to go to back-to-back championship games. We experienced a lot together, and I really appreciate Mark. He’s a great player, a great teammate, and I wish him nothing but the best.”

Shortly after releasing Sanchez, the team announced it had signed former Philadelphia and Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick to a one-year deal. Vick joins second-year quarterback Geno Smith, who started 16 games as a rookie last season.

Can Vick get his career started again or is he there to back Geno the whole season ?
